Samini and Shatta Wale have taken over the Ghanaian social media trends. The two music heavyweights on Monday, December 18, 2023, traded jabs on Twitter.

The two reggae and dancehall crooners locked horns on social media after Samini and other Ghanaian artists commenced the agenda to enable 100% play of local music on Ghanaian media outlets.

Shatta Wale took to his social media page to downplay the efforts saying:

“I just woke up to tell you, you can’t fight foreign music Their 10% of music will overshadow the whole Ghana Country with so much jealousy when it’s not them on the frontline You see how poverty deh worry your artiste with nonsense suggestion .. It’s poverty, my guy”.

His tweet didn’t go well with the ‘Linda’ singer. Samini later quoted shatta’s tweet and said;

“Bro Lol. Ghana has become a spotlight over the last few years and this is not ending anytime soon. What’s wrong with creatives appealing for more local content on our airwaves? Who does this hurt? So if it’s not your suggestion then it’s nonsense eh lol. Shut up I beg”

Social media users began to read meanings into the clapbacks which triggered the debate between Shatta Wale and Samini on Twitter.

Wale then replied:

My legend, you just have to know we are too grown now to bullshit the agenda. Nothing is wrong if creatives are on that path but the question is: Do the creatives themselves play their roles well to make these DJs play your songs ..BIG NO !! , WHY? Don’t pretend like you don’t know the problem ..you do that’s why today they don’t even listen to the great Samini when he talks…I am not here to rubbish your efforts nor do I want my ways to be accepted but “THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM MY LEGEND “ and you know it”

According to Samini, none of Shatta Wale’s grammar expositions will make him change his mind. He made a stance in another tweet when he said;

All the grammar from you of all people won’t make me change my stance. #playghana just like we’ve always advocated for. You had an address to the nation stating these facts. My submission did not deny the fact that it’s not a new call. Individuals have shared sentiments but together we are lauder bro. You are a legend in your own right. Time to #playghana in Ghana for those who visit Ghana to take Ghana back with them. This one too you say moko hooo lol eiii bandana”.

What is the Playghana Agenda?

PlayGhana initiative is a stakeholder engagement organized by the Ministry of Information with the sole aim of gathering insights from creatives and other players in the creative space. During the gathering, some Ghanaian musicians who were given the podium to speak to policymakers proposed 100% local music during and after the Christmas festive season.
