Archbishop Duncan Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba resigned from the Board of Trustees For the National Cathedral After Bishop Dag-Heward Mills

Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the founder of the United Denominations of Action Chapel Churches worldwide alongside Rev. Eastwood Anaba, the overseer of the Eastwood Anaba Ministries have both resigned from the board of trustees in charge of the National Cathedral project in Ghana.

As a presentation of Ghanaians’ pride and unity, the National Cathedral has remained the focus of discussion and controversy ever since its construction was proposed.

In a statement, both Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba agreed that the government’s refusal to engage an impartial accounting firm to evaluate all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral stands as their reason for resignation.

“Despite our prayers, best hopes, and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge. Since January 2023, we awaited news to no avail, regarding the finding of the audit”.

“We, therefore, regret that as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral.”

 

In January 2023, the two eminent clerics demanded that work on the National Cathedral be stopped while the project was audited.

The two distinguished clergymen called for the project’s suspension until Ghana’s economic situation improves in a letter to the Board of Trustees. They also noted that the project’s timely completion is unlikely given the country’s current economic situation.

“The current economic climate in Ghana presents obstacles to the timely construction and completion of the National Cathedral… We, therefore, resolve That in the spirit and cause of transparency and accountability to the Ghanaian people, the current Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral shall appoint an independent, nationally recognized accounting firm to audit all public funds contributed to and spent by the National Cathedral,” the two clergymen said in a memo.

Their resignation from the board of trustees for the National Cathedral follows that of Bishop Dag-Heward Mills (founder and leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International) in 2022.
