GH Music Award Schemes Are Not To Be Taken Serious – Lil Win Fumes

Ghanaian actor and musician Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as LilWin, has stated unequivocally that Ghana’s different music award schemes cannot be taken seriously.

The actor made such remarks on United Showbiz last Saturday.

According to him, he can’t phantom why he has yet to receive nominations in any of the music awards schemes in the country.

He contended that he deserved to be honoured for his countless hit tunes. Even for nothing, he deserves to be nominated for Best New Artist.

“I want to say it on record that all the various music award schemes in Ghana here are not serious. The Telecel Ghana Music Awards, the Ghana Music Awards UK, the Ghana Music Awards USA, and the rest are all not serious,” he fumed.

Kwadwo Nkansah continued, saying, “Since I started producing music, have you ever seen them nominating me? I have released hits upon hits, but have you read about them considering my nomination? Ah, those that they’ve been nominating even in the new artist of the year category—how many of them have more hits than me? They are all not serious.”.

“The board members of these award schemes are very discriminatory. They chose their favourites to be nominated, and I am glad that Arnold is here to answer my concerns.”

Arnold Asamoah Baidoo Reactions

As the board chair for Ghana Music Awards USA, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo admitted to the flaws of the scheme, saying, “Indeed, your argument is legit. Over the years, you have produced numerous hits, but you know, I was just made chairman of the Ghana Music Awards USA just recently, so I can only react to the immediate issues.”.

According to Arnold, the award scheme looks at three technical elements before nominating a song or artist.

He revealed that the scheme considers the eligibility period, the song’s popularity, and shortlisting.

Arnold mentioned that the Ghana Music Awards USA shortlists 10 songs or artists for a category, and it can happen that if an artist’s song does not fall within the shortlist, then it can’t be considered a nomination.
