I Will Soon Quit Music and Go Into Journalism – Highlife Singer Dada Hafco

On August 31, 2023, highlife singer Dada Hafco declared on Freedom FM in Koforidua that he would be giving up music to pursue journalism.

The singer of “Yebewu Nti” revealed to Nana Akuah Danquah that his music career will soon come to an end so that he can devote more time to his newly discovered aspiration, journalism.

I will soon stop making music and focus on my education to become a broadcast journalist,” he declared.

Highlife music, according to Dada Hafco, is the only genre that can effectively market Ghana in the international music industry.

He continued by saying that Ghana does not have a distinct musical identity and that there are differing opinions about what Ghanaian music actually is.

“There is no better music genre that can sell Ghana better Highlife and I am proud that the narrative is changing with the likes of Black Sheriff giving Highlife a mention on CNN” – Dada Hafco speaks.

“Ghana does not have a clear identity for its music. It always comes with mixed feelings as to what exactly is Ghanaian music” he added when the host quizzed her to identify Ghanaian music.

Dada Hafco seized the chance to give his perspective to the ongoing discussion about “O2 Arena Filling” among Ghanaian showbiz industry professionals.

He asserts that no Ghanaian musician has the authority to obligate anyone to fill the London O2 Arena. He claimed that Ghanaian music is developing gradually.

“Musicians in Ghana do not own anyone the responsibility to fill the O2 Arena. Our growth is gradual and gradual means ‘a process’.

The musician was interviewed on Freedom FM’s mid-morning show ‘Ahoto fie’ with Nana Akuah Danquah.

Dada Hafco is the stage name of Terry Asare Boamah, a high-life musician from Ghana. Yebewu Nti, one of his songs, was nominated for Highlife Song of the Year at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

In the VGMA, he was nominated twice in a row for Highlife Artiste of the Year.
