TGMA 2024: Kwasi Amawuga Wins Unsung Artiste of the Year
Kwasi Amewuga joins the list of TGMA’s unsung category winners since 2013.
The unsung category was introduced 11 years ago, with Mz Vee, Kuami Eugene, Epixode, Dope Nation, Ebony Reigns of blessed Memory, and Kelvyn Boy winning the category.
Sensational rapper Kwasi Amawuga has emerged as the best unsung artist of the year at the 2024 edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
The Ghana Music Awards, via their official social media pages on Sunday, May 26, 2024, announced Kwasi Amawuga as the winner of the Unsung Category.
Amawuga won the award ahead of Kasar, Lali X Lola, Keeny Ice, Seven Kizs and Alaptawan.
Before that announcement, most Ghanaian entertainment pundits tipped Seven Kizs for the category.

Responding to his win, Amewuga took to his Facebook page to write “congratulations to myself”, accompanied by the official flyer from the TGMA.
His post has received some great reactions from the Ghanaian populace.

The TGMA Unsung Category
According to the public relations officer for the Telecel Ghana Music award, the Unsung Category was introduced to throw the spotlight on young talents who are doing well but have not received recognition a the mainstream market.
“Over a decade having done this category for some time, we saw the need to help artists who were not really breaking through but extremely talented. So, we thought that as a strong platform like this why not throw the spotlight on some of these folks and put them out there and by that they could just break through,” Robert Klah explained the purpose of the introduction of the category.
To how these artists are selected for the category, Mr Robert Klah explained that one must be a good performer with a song, and a reasonable number of social media followers because the award scheme resorts to social media users to nominate the artistes.
He continued to say that the scheme also considers upcoming artists with regional or fanbase and not only social media.
