VGMA Would Have Collapsed If It Was Managed By a Ghanaian – Patience Nyarko: Astute Ghanaian gospel singer Patience Nyarko on live radio has divulged that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Scheme would have been a thing of the past if it had been managed by a Ghanaian.

Speaking to Mic2 on Adom Fm’s Entertainment show, the inspirational singer made a daring statement that no Ghanaian-owned music award scheme has been able to stand the test of time.

Even though the presenter tried to push her to mention the names of award schemes that couldn’t stand the test of time she jokingly swerved the temptation.

The “eboba” singer insisted that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has been able to stand all criticisms, organization hitch, and even financial crises and still running smoothly at its best.

She continued to say that if it should have been a Ghanaian-led scheme, it would died long ago. She therefore commended Nigerian investors who have thronged the shores of Ghana to invest in the Creative industry.

The Ghana Music Awards were first held in 1999 by CharterHouse, a local event planning company, to honor the “outstanding contributions of Ghanaian musicians to the growth and expansion of its associated industry.”

As a result of sponsorship, the Ghana Music Awards are now known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), an annual music awards ceremony in Ghana.

The VGMA is run by Charterhouse Productions, which is owned by Ghanaian Theresa Ayoade and Nigerian businessman Iyola Ayoade.
